Targeting swordfish out of Charleston is a relatively new and untapped fishery that few charters provide. Swordfish are amazing and resilient fish that live in the cold depths 70 to 80 miles off the coast in 1300-1800 feet of water. These fish bite all year round and can grow anywhere from 50 lbs to over 700 lbs.

Charleston has a rich marine ecosystem and a subtropical climate, making offshore fishing in Charleston, SC, a thrilling and rewarding adventure. The Atlantic Ocean offers plenty of opportunities to catch some of the most exciting and delicious fish.
Mahi-mahi, also known as Dolphin-fish or Dorado, can be caught throughout the spring and summer, but the best time to catch them is during the spring migration, usually between April and June. This is when the fish are thickest, and the bigger ones are caught. The slow season when catching them is rare is from November to January.

Wahoo is considered one of the fastest fish in the ocean, with the ability to reach speeds of up to 60 mph. When it comes to fishing, catching a Wahoo is a thrilling experience as it's known for making a reel scream. Wahoo can be caught year-round, but during the winter months, they tend to follow warmer waters and travel a little further out to the warmer Gulfstream.
Charleston is known for its diverse range of tuna species. The most commonly found tuna species in this region is the Blackfin Tuna. Other tuna species, including the Skipjack Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Bigeye Tuna, and Albacore Tuna, can also be found in this area. Each species has unique qualities and characteristics that make them popular and exciting to catch. Tuna can be caught throughout the year, but the peak season is from March to October..
King mackerel fishing is a popular and exciting activity in Charleston. These fish, also known as kingfish, are fast and powerful, often weighing up to 60 pounds or more. They are highly valued for their sporting qualities. The best time to fish for king mackerel in Charleston is from March to November, when the water temperature is warmer and more stable. While it is possible to catch king mackerel throughout the year, the optimal fishing season is from spring to fall, when large kings and baitfish are most abundant near the coast. You can still catch king mackerel in other months, depending on the weather and sea conditions.
Cobia is a popular gamefish in South Carolina. They grow up to 6 feet and 100 pounds. They are migratory and arrive nearshore around April when the waters begin to warm (68 -70°), and they hang around until the waters start to cool in October. They are one of the hardest-fighting saltwater species, making them extremely fun to catch. Cobia are unique in their tendency to follow large marine animals, such as sharks, rays, and sea turtles. They’re also frequently spotted around structures in the water, making them exciting to catch while spot-fishing. Cobia has a delicious buttery white flesh that is a favorite for culinary enthusiasts.
Offshore bottom fishing in Charleston is an exciting way to experience the thrill of catching some of the most delicious and prized fish in the Atlantic Ocean. We use techniques like fishing with live or cut bait and artificial jigging to target various species. Drifting live bottom and reefs 40-50 miles offshore can produce a wide variety of bigger fish such as Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, Triggerfish, Black Seabass, African Pompano, and more. Bottom fishing offshore in Charleston is excellent year-round, but some species have a limited season, like grouper, which is only open from May 1 to December 31.
We offer shorter offshore trips for those who prefer not to travel too far or wish to take a shorter trip. These trips are 20-30 miles offshore in water depths of 60-90 feet and are perfect for beginners, children, or those who haven't ventured far. During these trips, we target various fish species, including Black Seabass, Vermillion Snapper, Triggerfish, and Porgies.
The recreational fishing season for Genuine Red Snapper in federal waters is extremely limited, lasting only two days per year. These two days are announced by NOAA Fisheries for the South Atlantic federal waters and usually occur on the second weekend of July. During the season, recreational anglers are permitted to bag only one Red Snapper per person per day. Due to the short season, these two days are usually booked quickly.

Deep drop jigging is a specialized fishing technique that involves dropping a weighted lure, known as a jig, to deep ocean waters to target species inhabiting the depths of 200 - 500 feet or more . It is ideal for reaching fish that reside at significant depths. Deep drop jigging combines skill and advanced equipment to provide a thrilling and rewarding fishing experience.

Amberjack, also known as "Reef Donkeys", are an exciting catch as they pull hard for their size. There are nine species of amberjack, with the largest being the Greater Amberjack that can grow up to 200 pounds. These fish live in groups and have a dark amber stripe that runs from their nose to their dorsal fin. The stripe becomes more defined when the fish is feeding or excited. They are also delicious to eat, with firm meat that holds up well when cooked in various ways. They are especially great for smoked fish dip! However, their flesh may occasionally contain harmless parasitic worms that some people may find unappetizing.
